Presley said state government “is bought and sold to the highest bidder,” with Reeves demanding campaign contributions before meeting with people. Presley said Reeves likes to talk about California and New York instead of small towns in Mississippi. Trump released a 30-second video on Tuesday, endorsing Reeves, and Reeves told Presley: “Donald Trump only supports the only conservative in this race." Reeves served two terms as state treasurer and two as lieutenant governor before winning the governor's race in 2019. If neither Reeves nor Presley receives a majority in next Tuesday's election, the race would go to a Nov. 28 runoff.

(AP) — Incomplete homicide autopsy reports have continued to pile up in Mississippi - despite tough-on-crime talk by state leaders ahead of the Nov. 7 general election. Police officers and prosecutors rely on medical examiners' autopsy reports to investigate violent crimes and hold perpetrators accountable. Homicide autopsies in Mississippi continue to lag behind national standards as crime has remained a flashpoint in the state legislature and campaign trail. We have autopsies that have still been pending, sometimes for years.”Delayed autopsy reports create bureaucratic hurdles for prosecutors and defense attorneys. “States like Mississippi are safest when autopsy reports are completed within 90 days.

When it comes to male loneliness, social isolation hits dads particularly hard, author Shannon Carpenter writes. I’ve also experienced what has been called the male loneliness epidemic, and many dads tell me it has reached into fatherhood. The biggest question I get asked by fathers is how to find connection and friendship. How we think about fathers and fatherhoodToo often, fathers are portrayed as unnecessary idiots that complicate parenting rather than adding to the family. “We have to change the story of fatherhood,” Reeves said.

Is There a Right Way to Talk About Black Culture?

At its best “Dark Days” is the record of an intellectual life sustained by the Black vernacular. In the essay “Reading Fire, Reading the Stars,” Reeves recounts learning how to be a critic in the Pentecostal church. “Profligacy” is the key word here: With a nod to Hartman’s explorations of “wayward” lives and the presumed promiscuity of Black urban culture, Reeves reframes promiscuity as an aesthetic and intellectual virtue. In Reeves’s hands profligacy becomes an ethical necessity: Everything must be thought of in relation to what it shares space with. Recounting a trip to speak with students at a Native school, he feels his status as a stranger among strangers.

Competing partisan views on how we see men and masculinity are emerging as key factors in the run-up to the 2024 election. “No menace to this nation is greater than the collapse of American manhood,” he declares, placing full blame “on the American left. As for jobs, fewer and fewer young men have them. In advanced economies today, women are propelling themselves through life. Reeves and Hawley have quite dissimilar causal explanations for this phenomena — as do so many Republicans and Democrats.

Washington CNN —The Department of Justice is advising a federal judge in Mississippi that he does not need to hire a historian to determine whether a contested gun law complies with the Supreme Court’s most recent Second Amendment opinion. “The court is not a trained historian,” Reeves wrote. It outraged supporters of gun restrictions and was welcomed by those who support gun rights. In the new filing, the Biden administration defended a federal statute barring felons from possessing firearms and urged the court not to hire an historian, arguing that the government should win the case without such an intervention. “Our legal tradition rests in large part on the responsibility of the parties to present materials necessary to support their legal positions,” a government lawyer said in the new brief.
Therefore, experts say, hiring Black teachers is necessary to address the racial disparities that lead to poor educational outcomes and criminalization for Black children. Furthermore, advocates say that Black students who don’t have Black teachers are less likely to become teachers themselves, so commitments to diversifying the industry must start early on in the classroom. The Black Teacher Project in Oakland, California, works with Black teachers to “reimagine schools as communities of liberated learning,” the Project’s website reads. It also teaches educators how to implement restorative practices in their classrooms and invites them to retreats to foster community among Black teachers. “Therefore, the Black Teacher Project’s motto is ‘Every child deserves a Black teacher.’”
